Cedar & wood decks · Lake Stevens

Real wood underfoot, built so it lasts in the rain.

Cedar and pressure-treated decks for homeowners who want wood and will seal it, framed and flashed the same way as our composite work.

Why cedar

Cedar is the honest choice if you will keep up with it.

It costs less than composite, smells like a deck should, and resists rot better than most softwoods. It also needs sealing every year or two in Snohomish County. We tell you that before you sign, not after.

What is included

Same bones as a composite deck.

A cedar deck from us gets the same footings, treated framing and flashed ledger as a composite one. The boards are the only thing that changes. We fasten so boards can be replaced one at a time years from now, and we leave you with plain instructions on when and how to seal.

Pressure-treated decking is the lower-cost option again; it is tougher than cedar and plainer to look at. We will quote it if you ask.

  • Cedar or pressure-treated boards
  • Treated framing, flashed ledger
  • Sealing schedule in writing

Cedar deck questions

How often does cedar need sealing here?

Every year or two in our climate. We put the schedule in writing when the deck is done.

Is cedar cheaper than composite?

Up front, yes. Over the life of the deck the sealing adds up; we quote both so you can compare.

Does a cedar deck need a permit?

Material does not matter. In Lake Stevens the permit triggers are 200 sq ft, 30 inches above grade, attachment to the house, or serving the exit door.

Can you resurface my old frame with cedar?

If the framing and ledger are sound, yes. We check both first; see deck replacement and repair.
